Construction Completion and Further Works-in-Progress

Zoo development works continue here at Reaseheath. The otters, porcupines and meerkats are now all in situ in their newly completed homes, and settling into their new spaces nicely.

The demolition of the old aviary block was surprisingly quick and the progress on the new, larger block is well underway! Now the main framework is up it gives you some impression of what the finished building will look like, and the team are all excited to get this set up and the birds upgraded to their new homes.

In addition to the aviaries, the construction team are also working on our fantastic T-level classrooms. These will be situated just through our main reception foyer. This space has been utilised as animal enclosures previously; it used to be home to our porcupines, then the civets spent some time in there and more recently it was a temporary otter enclosure, followed by aviaries. This new transformation into classrooms will see the space transformed and hopefully put to very good use for our current and future T-level students.

In terms of visitor access there aren’t may changes; the aviary block is completely inaccessible whilst the works progress, and as a result unfortunately visitors aren’t able to view our civets or bush dogs. Inside, the hub (by the big fish tank) is now blocked off, so you can still see all the animals on the exotics corridor, our reptiles, amphibians and insects, it just means that once you get to the big fish tank you have to turn around and exit across the courtyard on your left, rather than following the loop round to main reception.

The end is in sight now! Hopefully the construction continues to take shape over the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for more on a grand reopening in the new year…
